About
Many of us are alone in our schools and don’t have anyone to meet at the copy machine for advice and a brief venting session. We want this site to be a place that will help you feel connected to other journalism teachers experiencing the same situations you face–a chance for you to get off of that “island of one”.
As we’ve worked on the Mentoring committee, we saw a need for a streamlined path for sharing resources among mentors and mentees. We want the site to provide a safe, secure, non-political place to share resources, ideas, successes, and more. The Forums are divided into content-specific categories, making asking questions and posting resources easy. We hope that it will help both you and your mentees.
Due to the growth of the mentoring program and the digital age we are now in, many of you have been paired with advisers who advise different media than you. We hope that this website will be a resource so that you can work with your mentors on the day-to-day general issues faced by advisers, and you (and your mentees) can reach out to other advisers through the forums who might be more knowledgeable in the other areas.
We know how valuable you as mentors are to keeping new teachers in the classroom. Our desire is that this website provides you with another tool for your mentoring toolbox.
We are giving mentors-only access for this month as we do a soft launch. We will invite your mentees in the new year. We’re hoping that you will go ahead and check it out and even start using it to share your successes and resources and ask any questions you might already have.
Please let us know if you see anything else we can add or if you have any suggestions or questions.
We are here to help!
